Amusement Parks

1. If I had a chance I would like to visit  the abandoned amusement park in Prypiat, Ukraine. This was a town that was the closest to Chernobyl after the nuclear reactor exploded it and everything around it were abandoned and left alone to decay. I think it would be interesting to photograph and people were forced to flee quickly so who knows what all was left behind and since it is still considered unsafe to inhabit the area it is relatively untouched since it was abandoned in 1986.

3.  I think these 5 places would also be interesting to photograph.  Lady Musgrave Island, Zion National Park, Varosha Cyprus, Harbin China, Himalayan Mountains

5. I would like to go take photos in Harbin, China as that is where my one sister was born. My parents flew there to adopt her in 2013 and the Ice and Snow Festival was happening while they were there. They talked a lot about the festival and showed me some pictures they took, it looked beautiful.  I would expect to take photos of the ice sculptures (life size buildings and such) and of the people there and their reactions to the ice and enjoying there time there while it is 50 below zero outside at the same time.

6. I would need to plan well and go at the specific time of the Ice Festival in Harbin, China. I would have to look up the dates and fly at that exact time of the year. It is very cold then so I am not sure how that would effect my camera equipment to be in temperatures below freezing for extended periods of time. I would need to pack my camera and several lenses for close up and for distance shots as well. Being that this event takes place in a communist country I would need to make sure to research what laws they have about photographs in the area.

Africa

 1    1.   After reading the article and then looking over Nick Brandt’s photos it is sad to know that many of those majestic animals will someday be gone. I was struck by how long he waited for several of his photos, it takes a lot of time and patience to capture a photograph of that quality and character. I like the look of his photos the really do look like studio images and portraits.  Beautiful quality for all photos.

3.  3. This photograph by Nick Brandt is one of my favorites as it captures what I imagine is some of the beauty of Africa. I really like the position of the animals and the lighting in the photograph.. The cheetahs are in clear focus and the background of the African plains is blurred out as a backdrop making the photo look like a family portrait for the cheetahs.

4. What rules of photography are evident in the photos you selected, be sure to explain the rule to me?This photo clearly shows the rule of balance. The cheetahs being on both the left and right of the photo and near the center but not fully in the center plus having a nice amount of landscape in the background and off the the sides of the cheetahs clearly shows that Mr. Brandt uses the rule of balance in his photography.


5.  When Nick Brandt takes his photos he uses A Pentax 6711 with only 2 fixed lenses. He is not using a telephoto lens so he is getting extremely close to the animals he is photographing or he is including a lot of the scenery of Africa in his photos if he is not getting close up photos.

6. He is hoping in taking these photos to show the beauty of the animals of the wild in an intimate and up close way before the animals become extinct.

7. Nick Brandt is hoping to memorialize the beauty of these animals so they can be remembered when they are extinct how they actually were when they were just being at peace among the land they lived in.

Photo Shoot Reflection

My simplicity photo was of a close up of the building with a man falling out from the building.  The photo was zoomed in so there really was nothing else visible in the photograph and your focus was drawn straight to the man and what was occurring. With all that was going on this photographer chose to focus in on one simple yet tragic moment. 

The rule of thirds photo is everyone evacuating over the bridge and  facing toward the camera, with all of the smoke behind them. The rule of thirds is shown in how the photographer took the picture with the main group of people in the bottom left third, this created a very powerful effect in showing that everyone was leaving the city on on the right side of the photo the entrance there is almost no traffic and just a few people shown walking. 

My lines photo was a close up of the building with plumes of smoke coming out of several floors.  The building lines are vertical in perfect symmetry and then the smoke comes in horizontal lines looking like someone took the time to drew it in with precision.

My balance photo was World Trade Center buildings in the center of the photo with the plumes of smoke coming through.I feel looking up at the buildings in the center and the people in front of the photo does a very nice job of balancing out the photo. I said it in my picture description but I feel if the woman in the black was not in the center of the people it would not be as balanced out to me, she just adds the right amount of people in the photo and leaves the focus on the buildings and what is going on yet adds a human touch to the horrible event.

My Framing photo took some finding as many did not look framed to me. I picked the photo with the buildings in the center smoking and the smaller buildings around the sides of the WTC. To me, these buildings created a frame making me focus in on the center where all the important action was taking place.

My Avoiding Mergers photo is the one of the Empire State building with the WTC behind it on fire. This is a farther in the distance photo then anything else I chose and to me if the Empire State Building was not shot from the angle it was I do believe the photo would have looked as if either the ESB was on fire itself or both buildings were. Place the WTC off to the right instead of the center allows you to see what is truly going on., 

911 Reflection

This pictures is a great example of Lines as you have the lines from the building and the lines from the smoke which cause your eyes to really focus in on the photo.

This photo shows great Balance between the two buildings with both pluming smoke and the people are beautifully balanced in front of the building, but I feel without the woman in the black in the center the people would feel off balance.

This photo shows the of Avoiding Mergers by having the World Trade Center off to the right it shows where the smoke is coming from. IF they centered the Empire State building then it would have looked as though both buildings were on fire.

The buildings on the side frame out the World Trade Center as it is smoking, causing you to focus in on the WTC.  This photo shows a classic example of Framing.

This photo shows The Rule of Thirds by having the focus of the photo be in the bottom left of the photograph.

This photo shows sheer Simplicity, The only things you see are

the lines of the building and a person plunging to their death. It is a powerful simple photo.

Filling the frame

The photo shows the best use of filling the frame
as there is almost no blank space in the photo and the
photo itself shows students enjoying and experiment
at school.

Action and Emotion

This photo shows the best action and emotion as
it captures the action of the water as it is in air and
clearly shows both girls reaction to what has taken place.

The Story

This photo shows the best story because it shows
students coming together in Unity on school grounds
which is not something you see often outside of
organized sports and activities.
