Deadlines in Journalism

1. What is the origins of the word deadline? the origin of the word is uncertain. At one time it meant lines that went no where. Later the meaning changed to mean a line that could not be crossed by prisoners during the Civil War, eventually it was used by journalists as we use it today meaning a time when work is due.


2. What impact will missing today's deadline have on you? It will effect whether or not I get a grade.

3. Have you had issues meeting deadlines in other classes? If so, what consequences did you have for missing those deadlines? yes I do have issues meeting deadlines in all of my classes. My grades suffer when I miss deadlines.

4. Do you find yourself missing deadlines on a regular basis? If so, what do you think causes you to miss deadlines? yes I do tend to miss deadlines. I tend to put things off thinking I have plenty of time to get to it and eventually it backs up and I get too much work in front of me.


5. What specifically kept you from meeting today's photo deadline?  I was doing back work from when I was out sick with Pneumonia.


6. What do you plan to do to complete this task as quickly as possible so you can earn as much credit as you can? I am trying to catch up on all of my work and do a nice job on my work to earn as much credit as I can.



1. Which of those eight suggestions do you think might help you be more efficient?  Dont get sidetracked


2. Which of the suggestions is the toughest for you to complete? Why? Dont get sidetracked. I tend to get distracted very easily and get lost doing other things and then I dont get back to what I was originally doing.


3. Are you a morning or night person? I am a night person


3A. What are some of the problems you might run into because you are more productive at certain times of the day? I tend to put things off because I am tired in the morning and then at night I get sidetracked and sometimes forget to get my work from earlier done.

4. How can you create a dedicated study time for yourself? Set a time after dinner to dedicate to homework.

5. What are three direct things could you do to eliminate distractions? Put my phone in another room when I do homework. Pick a quiet place to do my homework. Put on some music as that helps me focus.


1. Are there any correlations to taking control of your homework and time management? Yes if you set a time every day and make it part of your routine you will dread it less.

2. What is your ideal study setting and mood? In my room at night with some music on.

3. What are your biggest distractions when it comes to studying? My  phone and my siblings.

4. What three things could you do to help with those distractions? I can put my phone away when I do my homework and make sure I go to a room where I can get away from my siblings to help me focus better and make sure I have had a snack and a water in my room so I am ready to go.
